Lovely libations: The frozen turkey

The frozen turkey

Every month, my roommate and I mix up a cocktail and settle in for a few episodes of Golden Girls. It’s a chance to unwind, catch up, and build skills as amateur bartenders. Follow this ongoing series of cocktails to suit the season! Read part five, cinnamon maple bourbon sour, here.

The frozen turkey, from The View From Great Island, is a decadent boozy milkshake. While milkshakes seem like the companion to a hot summer day, this flavour is just fine in the winter. The rich combination of amaretto, Wild Turkey, caramel sauce, and butter pecan ice cream make it a dessert in itself.

  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • Pinch of salt
  • 4 tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1 pint butter pecan ice cream
  • 1 oz. Wild Turkey 101
  • 1 oz. amaretto

Combine the sugar, cream, butter, and salt in a saucepan and heat it to a simmer. Keep it simmering for five minutes, then remove from heat and let it cool.

Blend the ice cream, Wild Turkey, and amaretto until smooth. Serve in glasses with a drizzle of caramel sauce. Garnish with a little sprig of mint if you’re feelin’ fancy.
