I believe this quote is in reality a paraphrase, but the Internet provides inconsistent verification at every turn. So, to (possibly) paraphrase Karen Blixen:
“The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears, or the sea.”
Life’s a beach in Tofino. My days—when I wasn’t off exploring—consisted of lounging by the beach with Little Women, then shuffling off for a nap.
Some solid snacking definitely found its way in there as well. Pictured is the cod fish and chips from Wildside Grill with apple coleslaw, shortly before I devoured it.
Birkenstocks and sweatpants, for the ultimate “I’m on vacation” look.
I was fortunate to catch good weather the entire time I was in Tofino. Sunny skies and waves for days, so I could clamber around on rocks and snap pics to my heart’s content.
To be honest though, I adore stormy beach weather: crashing waves and a grey palette simply scream 19th century gothic literature to me. Maybe it’s partly due to my burning at the slightest hint of sunshine, but a chilly walk along a foggy beach is my cup of tea. Especially if accompanied by a cup of tea.
Travelling solo was a wonderful experience that I would highly recommend. Of course, I did find myself missing home and wishing I could share moments with someone else. It made hopping on the ferry for Horseshoe Bay all the sweeter though, knowing that I could tell my loved ones all about my weekend getaway. I just went to Tofino, but I know others who have backpacked to Japan and all over Europe on their own. Wherever you travel, consider going your own way.
