A sweet and citrus, bourbon-based cocktail
My ex-roommate and I used to do monthly “Toastmaster” hangouts, back when we lived together: eves spent sipping cocktails, watching Golden Girls or devolving into tipsy catchups.
We’ve been revitalizing our semi-regular toasts, and recently enjoyed this twist on the Minimalist Baker‘s raspberry bourbon smash. It’s a sweet and sour bourbon-based cocktail, with jam, orange juice, and triple sec. The jam helps balance out the bourbon, and it’s so easy to adapt the cocktail depending on your favourite jam. We swapped in blueberry, but raspberry, strawberry, cherry — heck, even marmalades — would be so delicious as well. Now, read on and get shaking!
- 2 tbsp jam
- 1 shot bourbon (I used Bulleit rye whiskey)
- 1 shot triple sec
- a dash of orange juice
- club soda
These are amounts for single drinks. Just multiply for more than one drink!
Fill your cocktail shaker with the jam, bourbon, triple sec, and a splash of orange juice. Shake vigorously for about 10–15 seconds, so the jam gets mixed in with the other ingredients. Pour evenly between your glasses, and fill with club soda to add some sparkle. Be sure to slice up orange or peel a lil’ rind for garnish. Enjoy!
